About the experience
The history of Traquair House is bursting with intrigue and adventure; it is the oldest inhabited house in Scotland, beginning its life as a hunting lodge for kings and queens. It’s definitely worth a visit, and what better way to top off the day than a tasting session, where you’ll get to try three delicious ales from the brewery. The brewery at Traquiar house dates back to the 1700’s but was in a disused state until Peter Maxwell Stuart discovered it in the 1960’s. Since then it has gone from strength to strength, producing high quality real ales and exporting them as far as the USA.

Lovely way to spend an afternoon. Very interesting and beautiful surroundings.

Very special Ales
When visiting Traquair House we also wanted to taste the ales before buying. We got a private tour of the brewery with all the original equipment and Ian explained everything well. The theoretical part was not too long before we got to the tasting. I would never have believed the very distinct characters and tastes that ales can have. Some were very strong and we walked back with a couple of bottles.

Disappointing
Had to travel approx 100 miles to reach Venue and Booked a Weekend to enable travel to Innerleithen to participate in Brewery Tour, sadly this was very disappointing, there was not a tour as you would expect however we were guided to a room and just stood and listened to a talk - picture attached was all that was involved in the “tour”
